Groundwork is a logical and systematic way of training horses. Teaching them a solid cue system from the ground is a great way to prepare them mentally and physically for the future.
Groundwork exercises are great for building strength, suppleness and proprioception. The horse can also improve his balance without the weight of the rider.
As you learn more about how horse's learn, you will improve your timing and skill. You will become more effective, more focused and better able to respond in the moment.
As your timing improves and your cues become more clear and consistent, your horse will have a clearer understanding of what you are trying to achieve. This will help him become more confident in whatever he does.
Once you and your horse are happier, your focus will improve. You will then start to see progress. If you choose to compete in Horse Agility or Liberty, then you will have a way to measure that progress... if that's your thing!
When you are seeing improvement and feeling happier, it starts to feel like fun! We are all about fun. Taking part in our clinics, competitions and socials is all about supporting and encouraging one another.
Whatever your discipline, doing some groundwork will reap the benefits. And of course, when you find a like minded bunch of people and have a goal to work towards, even the wet, miserable days seem bearable!
